evidence of editing process

 Text

During the editing stage there was text used this was shown as a title  was added to the beginning of the short film this was to introduce the short film to the audience. This would also be used as a way to promote the film to the Audience and inform them about what the short film is about.

Sound

Whilst editing there were scenes that were primarily focused on sound edits that were to be made this is conveyed within the following screen shot which shows that the sound has been completed muted for effect for the character and situation to show the focus of the character during filming.

clip length

The clip length of scenes was also focused on during there editing process this was due to the fact that certain clips were quite long therefore had to be shortened this was so that it would not drag out the film and would be able to meet the brief in regards to being between 3-5 minutes long.

Genre conventions and definitions

Evidence of set up and operating sound equipment

 sound equipment

Within the final 2 images this shows the evidence of myself setting up/operating sound equipment. I am seen using a voice recorder during the production of the short film, the reason for this is due to background noise this affected the success of the dialogue of the short film therefore by using a voice recorder this would help with capturing better vocals from the lines of the characters of the short film.

Evidence of the use of pre-production material

Risk assessment

The first image shows the camera equipment on the road this represents a possible risk that has been identified as there are cars on the road therefore this poses as a risk to the camera equipment because cars that pass by could hit the camera  equipment therefore causing an accident which can have a disastrous result as the car would be potentially be severely damaged and to add to this the camera would be either severely damaged or even destroyed which would result in having to pay for a new set of camera equipment such as an SD card,  tri-pod and a camera. Therefore its important to assess risks  so that they can be avoided to prevent any incidents from occurring .

Location recce

The second image shows evidence of the location recce being used to show the set locations that have been selected to shoot the short film this has been in response to various factors that have been taken into consideration when making the decision of the locations that would prove to be most suitable, accessible to have the short film filmed at.

storyboard

The final shot displays the use of the storyboard during production, this was to identify the order of which the scenes should be filmed in based on the events drawn on the storyboard so it could be referred to when it came time to filming the short film as our time would be able to efficiently shoot al the scenes of the short film and the type of shots that the scenes had to be done in.

Evidence setting up and operate camera and Lighting equipment

Setting up /operating camera equipment

In the first image I am seen setting/ operating camera this is to get ready for the start of filming for the short film. I have to check the quality of the camera settings such as the aperture, ISO and shutter speed to decide whether or not they require adjustment in response to the external environment so that there is no issues regarding the camera quality when shooting scenes for the short film. During the production stage of the short film there were a number of settings that had to be changed in order to adapt to the setting/environment which we filmed in. These settings being the ISO, shutter-speed and aperture during the first half of filming where we were filming the following camera settings were - ISO - 1600, shutter-speed1/1000 and aperture was at F8.0 which changed over time to shutter speed - 1/1000, ISO - 3200 , Aperture - F8.0 and shutter - speed 1/1000, ISO - 6400 and aperture at F8.0 the reason for these changes were because of the external environment changes.

Setting up/ operating Lighting equipment

Within the final 2 images this shows the evidence of myself setting up/operating lighting equipment. I am seen using an on- camera light during the production of the short film, the reason for this is because there is a scene within the short film which uses 3 point lighting therefore the use of an on-camera was necessary as a source of light for the shot. There was also the use of the other 2 secondary light sources which are shown above. These light sources helped to create the 3-point lighting effect for the extra scenes that we were tasked with completing as evidence to show the use of various lighting techniques.

change of ISO, shutter-speed and aperture

During the production stage of the short film the camera settings had to be changed due to the changes in the external environment specifically the time of day there were changes that had to be made in order to ensure that the camera quality was smooth throughout the entire short film therefore the main setting which had to be changed was the ISO which was changed from 1600 to 3200 this was in response to the change in the time of day therefore the sky would become darker which meant camera settings had to be adjusted so that filming was clear regardless of the setting change.

variety of lighting techniques

There were various lighting techniques that were used such as direct and indirect lighting, direct lighting was used to have a single light source focusing on a particular subject where as indirect is lighting which comes from all sides which can also be used to highlight a specific subject to create effect on the audience as this focuses their attention on that subject as they are the main focus of the camera.
